It needs to be in a filter housing or some other type of housing that will let the water flow but not expose your fish to it.Now for my review:Pretty good quality. I tested it's "waterproofness" because I do eventually want to install this in my fish tank filter housing and it didn't leak. I'm currently using it to sanitize the air in my new air purifier that has a led UV-C light built into the filter housing that stopped working after just two months. (Waiting on the manufacturer to honor their warranty.) But I may just keep this how it is and order another one for my fish tank. I'm also thinking about ordering a couple of more to use as shoe sanitizers from time to time. The small 3 watt size will fit in just about any size shoe and completely sanitize within a few minutes. Was a little concerned that the back of the power switch says it is 220v but it is not. It works on 110-120v just fine. I like how long the cord is too. It's not too long but long enough for most uses. My only wish would be for the bulb to be easily replaceable. I'm certain I could replace it if I can find this type of bulb without the E17 base since the yellow end is more or less just a rubber stopper instead of a hard sealed plastic. Overall it's an excellent product for the price.
